1944    Winearls

Winearls is a Grade II Listed terraced house in the heart of the village of Burnham Market. Formerly a jewellers shop and home, and retaining it’s interesting display window on the front elevation, the house had been untouched in recent history and was in need of significant upgrading and repair. Unusually for a property in this location, the house benefitted from a large rear garden, and several outbuildings.

In consultation with the client, Liv designed a sensitive remodelling of the interior of the main house, opening up some internal spaces to create a layout more suitable to modern living, as well as some sensitive thermal upgrades, including new windows and doors to the rear elevation. Glazed screens were added internally to provide draught lobbies to both entrances, while retaining light and long views through the house. A dormer window was added to the rear catslide roof, allowing the first-floor bathroom to become usable. Cement mortar and patches o render which had caused signficaint internal damp were removed, and lime mortars and limecrete floors installed to support a breathable structure.

Alongside this, the small outbuildings were converted into a generous laundry (containing an original bread oven) and store room, with landscaping works to the shared driveway.

The large two storey detached garage structure was extended and sensitively converted into a three bedroom annexe to the main house, to provide additional visitor accommodation.
