This small, one-room extension added a first floor 3rd bedroom to this small mid-terraced cottage in North Runcton, constructed above an existing ground floor extension.
Projecting the new room out over the back wall of the existing cottage by 1m created shelter to the back door, which was used primarily as the main entrance by the owners. The existing terrace of cottages had a strong rhythm of gables, with three matching gables to the rear.
The extension was designed as a ‘shadow’ of these, matching them in form and scale but clad in slate to match the roofs of the cottages; a simple contemporary intervention.
