Location: South Norfolk
Client: Private
Status: Pre-planning
This new build house has been designed for a young family on a site comprising 15 self- build plots in South Norfolk.
The client's brief was for a house with an interconnected semi-open plan ground floor layout, with a sheltered outdoor courtyard garden. The form of the house was driven by the need to utilise standard timber components to keep costs down, resulting in a double-gable form. This has allowed for some areas of the first floor to be open to the rafters while the remainder uses trussed rafters to privide attic storage.
The three masses (front, back and side) have different materials, allowing them to be read independently. The brick forming the front mass wraps around the courtyard, proving privacy and shelter to the seating area.
